At John Calvin School, we believe that every child is created in the image of God, deeply loved, and deserving of safety, dignity, and respect. As followers of Christ, we are called to protect, nurture, and listen to the children entrusted to our care.

We are committed to providing a child safe and Christ-centred environment where all children and young people are not only protected but also feel safe, valued, and heard.

Our responsibility to safeguard students is not only a legal and ethical obligation but a spiritual calling. We invite you to partner with us in this mission as we work together to reflect Christ's love in all we do.

10 National Principles for
Child Safe Organisations.

In obedience to God's Word and in line with the National Principles, we are committed to a school environment where the safety, well-being, and spiritual growth of all children are safeguarded and nurtured.

Principle 1

Leadership, governance and culture

The Board and leadership team consistently prioritise child safety. All staff complete the safeguarding children course run by the Australian Childhood Foundation.

Principle 2

Children's rights and participation

Students are taught about their rights to be safe and respected. Staff are trained to take every concern seriously, responding with empathy.

Principle 3

Families and communities

We recognise parents as primary caregivers and partners. Our communication reflects a strong home-school partnership based on mutual respect.

Principle 4

Equity and diverse needs

We welcome all students regardless of ability or background, recognising each child's God-given worth. Policies are applied fairly and sensitively.

Principle 5

Suitable and supported staff

All staff and volunteers undergo rigorous screening including Working with Children Checks. Ongoing training in child safety and mandatory reporting is provided.

Principles 6–10

Processes, reporting, environments, online safety & review

Clear complaint processes, safe physical environments, online safety protocols, and regular policy reviews — consistent with our Christian values.
